Smarter Ventilation Starts with the ButterflyBVM™
Hyperventilation during bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitation remains a persistent challenge in emergency medicine. Studies have shown that even trained providers can deliver excessive ventilation volumes and rates during manual ventilation. This can increase the risk of complications such as volutrauma and barotrauma, especially in pediatric patients.¹ This ongoing challenge has driven the need for smarter, more controlled ventilation solutions in both pre-hospital and hospital settings.
The ButterflyBVM™ from Compact Medical was designed to address those challenges. As the world’s first three-in-one bag-valve-mask (BVM), the ButterflyBVM features built-in rate control, adjustable tidal volume settings, and variable pressure control to help providers deliver ventilation more consistently and in accordance with ventilation guidelines.
Recent simulated pediatric studies are showing promising results. Compared with traditional BVMs, users were 10 times more likely to achieve the target minute ventilation with the ButterflyBVM. The study also found that minute ventilations delivered with the ButterflyBVM were significantly safer, and many participants described the device as “intuitive and easy to use.”²
Designed for infants through adults, the ButterflyBVM also accommodates standard PEEP valves, filters, ET-CO2 detectors, and standard patient interfaces, making it adaptable for a wide range of resuscitation scenarios.
Features & Benefits
- Three-In-One Design — One device designed to support ventilation from infants to adults.
- Adjustable Tidal Volume — Quickly match ventilation volume to patient size using Broselow and Handtevy systems.
- Built-In Rate Control — Helps reduce the risk of hyperventilation during resuscitation.
- Variable Pressure Settings — Adjustable PIP dial allows providers to better control delivered pressures.
- Accessory Ready — Compatible with standard PEEP valves, filters, ET-CO2 detectors, and patient interfaces.
- Single-Use Design — Helps support infection control and rapid deployment in emergencies.
- Intuitive to Use — Study participants described the ButterflyBVM as easy to use during simulated pediatric scenarios.
- Supports Safer Ventilation — Users were 10x more likely to achieve target minute ventilation compared to traditional BVMs.
