Enhance First-Stick Success in Neonates and Pediatrics with Argon PICC Lines

Since their debut in the 1970s, peripherally inserted catheters (PICC) have grown in popularity due to being deemed safer and simpler than central venous lines. Over a million PICCs are placed each year in the United States,1 with many of them being placed in infants and children.

Placing PICC lines in these small patients can be tricky, taking years of experience to perfect. Having the right tools for a catheter placement in a neonate or pediatric patient is crucial for establishing and maintaining correct access.

SILICONE AND POLYURETHANE PICC LINES FROM ARGON MEDICAL DEVICES

The silicone and polyurethane PICC lines with BDâ„¢ Introducers with Instaflashâ„¢ Needle Technology from Argon Medical Devices were designed for safe and easy placement in both neonates and pediatric patients. The Instaflash Needle Technology Introducers from BD provide rapid visualization of blood return along the catheter shaft and enhance first-stick success in highly vulnerable patients.

Each silicone catheter is equipped with a soft silicone integrated extension set with pre-attached flushing t-port. This allows for flushing of the catheter before, during and after insertion, and is designed to enhance patient comfort and provide increased mobility. On polyurethane catheters, there is a pre-attached Y-site.

Each catheter features centimeter markings for easy measurement and trimming before insertion, and a protective sleeve designed to minimize accidental contamination of the catheter during placement.

A trimming tool comes with each catheter to ensure clean and accurate trimming, while providing a 90° cut consistent with INS Standards and FDA recommendations.
