ButterflyBVM™ Resuscitator – Dial Your Way to Safer, Easier Ventilation

Every 40 seconds, someone experiences cardiac arrest. In non-clinical settings, only one in 10 people who go into sudden cardiac arrest will survive. Performing CPR with a Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) is often one of the first actions taken to save a patient.

Traditional BVMs have a significant limitation: they rely heavily on the user’s skill to ensure proper operation. There is very little built into these devices to help control the volumes, pressures or rates at which patients receive breaths. In nearly every resuscitation attempt, at least one of those variables – volume, pressure, or rate – is administered incorrectly, which can lead to hyperventilation and injury.

Studies show that healthcare providers, regardless of their experience level, hyperventilate patients during Bag-Valve-Mask use in up to 79% of cases.¹ Hyperventilation increases intrathoracic pressure, decreases venous return to the heart, reduces cardiac output and causes cerebral vasoconstriction. This can lower survival rates and worsen neurological outcomes.²

    Clearly, hyperventilation is a problem

The ButterflyBVM™: Working to Solve The Problem of Hyperventilation and Injury from Traditional BVMs

The ButterflyBVM assists caregivers in delivering breaths safely and effectively. Once a user picks it up, they can select the maximum pressures and volume range they want to deliver to the patient using the ButterflyBVM’s built-in dials. With 13 different settings available, these dial options allow providers to assist infants, children and adults. There is no need to worry about which bag size to grab or swapping out an inappropriate bag. By using the ButterflyBVM, caregivers can be prepared for any patient — infant, pediatric or adult — with a single device, complete with tidal volume control and dialable peak inspiratory pressures.

    Safe. Durable. Effective. Simple.
