Traditional BVMs depend entirely on the user’s skill. There is very little built into these devices to help control the volumes, pressures or rates at which breaths are delivered to patients. In nearly every resuscitation attempt, at least one of these variables is often administered incorrectly, resulting in patients receiving too much air. Since the invention of the traditional bag valve mask in the 1950s, there has been very little innovation in its design and functionality.
The ButterflyBVM is designed to assist life savers in delivering each breath correctly. What distinguishes it from traditional BVMs is its slower inflation rate and the built-in ability for users to adjust the maximum pressure and volume settings for infants, pediatrics and adults.
