The Future Of Temperature Monitoring: Safe-T-Vue® Temperature Indicators
Maintaining the correct temperature for blood products is crucial. Even small temperature fluctuations can compromise the quality of blood products.¹ Blood cells and plasma are highly sensitive to temperature changes, and exposure outside the recommended ranges can reduce the effectiveness of the red blood cells, damage clotting factors, and increase the risk of hemolysis.² Improper storage can make blood less safe for transfusions and jeopardize patient safety.
Zebra Safe-T-Vue® Temperature Indicators
The Safe-t-Vue® makes it simple, reliable, and cost-effective to monitor blood storage and transport. The Safe-T-Vue is a heat-sensitive indicator that sticks directly to the blood bags and provides clear, direct-contact monitoring. The Safe-T-Vue 6 is for intraoperative storage (<6°C), and the Safe-T-Vue 10 is for transport (<10°C). When temperatures exceed safe limits, the indicator changes color from white to red, and the change is irreversible, allowing clinicians to know if a blood product at a glance has been compromised.
By providing a clear visual alert when temperature limits are exceeded, Safe-T-Vue® indicators help clinicians make quick, confident decisions about whether a blood product can still be used. This simple safeguard supports safer transfusion practices while helping healthcare facilities reduce unnecessary waste.
