SWIK®: Automated, Hands-Free Oral Secretion Management
Managing oral secretions in clinical settings can be time-consuming and inconsistent with traditional suctioning methods. Whether caring for someone with dysphagia or one of the 700,000 patients on mechanical ventilation annually¹, effectively managing these secretions is critical for patient outcomes. Unmanaged oral secretions can lead to serious infections such as Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP), Aspiration Pneumonia, Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI), and other costly, non-reimbursable complications.
SWIK® offers a more efficient solution than traditional suctioning methods: a hands-free, automated system designed to manage oral secretions comfortably and continuously for up to 12 hours before requiring replacement.
SWIK: A New Way To Manage Oral Secretions
This single-use device features a soft, wicking foam mouthpiece that rests along the patient’s lower gum line, continuously clearing secretions before they become an issue. By connecting to a portable or wall-mounted suction pump, SWIK helps reduce the need for frequent manual intervention. This allows clinicians to focus on higher-priority tasks while supporting patient comfort.
Continuous secretion management plays an important role in patient outcomes. Research suggests it may help reduce the risk of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP), shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation, and decrease the length of ICU stays. With SWIK’S gentle design, ability to handle varying fluid viscosities, and discrete profile, it is suited for a wide range of patients. This includes patients who are intubated, post-stroke, or in critical care.
