Macy Catheter Facilitates Rapid Symptom Relief
Administer Medication Quickly
The Macy Catheter provides quick and easy rectal administration of fluids and medications when the oral route is compromised and IV starts are difficult or not necessary. The catheter can preclude the placement of IO devices or central lines in non-critical situations, avoiding the cost and potential complications of these devices.
When to Use the Macy Catheter
- Administer medication of fluids quickly when oral route is compromised or IV placement is protracted, impossible or unnecessary
- Bridge to subsequent IV placement
- Dehydrated patients
- Agitated patients needing sedation
- Administer medication not available in IV form
- Retention Enema (Kayexalate, Lactulose)
- Facilitate discharge from the ED and avoid readmissions
