Preventing the Spread of Airborne Viruses and Bacteria

MED Alliance Group announces its partnership with WellAir, an innovative Irish-based manufacturer of medical-grade, portable air disinfection units. Using patented plasma technology, WellAir portable air disinfection units inactivate harmful microorganisms at the molecular level.

“In this day and age, it is imperative that hospitals and healthcare facilities ensure the air patients and staff breathe is clean and healthy,” said MED Alliance Group President Mike Schroeder. “We are pleased to add the WellAir air disinfection units to our portfolio, providing additional solution-driven products to our clinical customers.”

About NanoStrike™ Technology

The WellAir portable air disinfection units utilize NanoStrike technology, a patented, ultra-low energy, plasma-based nanotechnology. NanoStrike plasma coils within each unit provide a deadly strike (similar to the type of discharge found in lightning strikes) to rapidly inactivate airborne pathogens. The technology has been independently tested on SARS-CoV-2 reduction. The NV1050 was shown to reduce the live SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19, by 99.99% in 30 minutes.

Air Disinfection Benefits

According to the EPA, humans are inside 90% of the time while indoor air pollutants can be between two to 100 times higher than outdoor levels. Airborne viruses can travel in tiny aggregated droplets that can linger for hours before settling on surfaces. Cleaning the air complements existing hand hygiene and surface disinfection practices. WellAir portable air disinfection units help close the loop, reducing transmission rates of viruses and bacteria. More than 25 laboratory and clinical studies have shown that the WellAir units reduce:

  • Pathogens in the air that lead to viral and bacterial infection
  • The total VOCs that cause odor, headaches, and eye and throat irritation
  • Dust, mold spores, and pollen that trigger asthma and allergies.

Applications

With three sizes available, healthcare facilities can choose which of the WellAir units would best fit their needs. The NV1050 is the largest unit suitable for operating theatres, intensive care units, emergency rooms and patient wards. The NV900 is suitable for patient rooms, nurses stations and examining rooms. And the NV200 works well in smaller spaces such as reception desk areas, bathrooms and supply rooms.
